Observation of Cherry Blossoms with the Specialist, Focusing on Double-flowered Varieties at Botanical Gardens, Osaka City University

“Observation of Cherry Blossoms” will be held at Botanical Gardens,?Osaka City University (OCU) on Saturday, 13 April, 2019.
The cherry blossom mountain in the OCU Botanical Gardens were originally designed by the cherry blossom expert Shintaro Sasabe who was also known as a model of Tsutomu Mizukami's novel “Sakuramori (cherry tree guardian)”. Total of 180 trees of 35 cultivated varieties and some wild species are currently planted there. We can enjoy the cherry blossoms blooming one after another from late March to the end of April. Wild species such as “Yamazakura (mountain cherry)”, “Oshimazakura (Oshima cherry)” as well as a new breed “Yosano Akiko (named after the famous female author/poet)” and “Shin-nishiki” which can only be found here, will be at their best. In this observation event, focusing on double-flowered varieties, mysteries of flower structure including the research results will be introduced in ways easy to understand.
